Pardon me, but can you send someone else?

I love reading Moses first face to face encounter with God in Exodus Chapter 3 and 4. In one way, I love it because it has some humor (Yes, the bible does have some funny moments). I can almost picture Moses screaming like Homer Simpson and running away when God turned his staff into a snake. However, I think I love it most because it resembles our all to often reactions to God when he lays people, actions, and words on our hearts. Take a moment and look at some of the responses Moses gave as God when he was told to go back to Egypt and tell the Israelites and Pharaoh that God was going to set free His people.

Moses answered, "What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, 'The LORD did not appear to you'?"

But Moses said to God, "Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?

Moses said to the LORD, "Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue."

But Moses said, "Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else."

Does this sound familiar? I can remember times in my life when God would place someone on my heart to share Christ with and my first responses were often, "God, what if they don't believe me, God, I don't know what to say, God, who am I to say or do anything, or God, please pick someone else".

In looking at Moses responses, I find encouragement that someone who did so much for the Lord initially struggled to see God's plan for his life. It also reminds me that despite our fears, the results are not up to us. God was just asking Moses to be obedient in the moment without knowing exactly how things will turn out. God does the same to us. He asks us to be obedient to His calling. However, it is God who does the miracles, God who changes the hearts, and God who makes the impossible possible.

The beauty is that He uses common people like us to accomplish these tasks and to further His Kingdom. When you begin to realize that, what He calls us to is not a burden, it's a blessing.

My question to you is--What is God calling you to do in your life right now? What is He calling you to give up? Who is He placing on your heart to share Christ with?

Love you guys,

Brad
